Ich bin ene Kölsche Jung – Wat willste maache? – This very well-known chorus heartfully sung by Hans Süpper, a Cologne Original, perfectly describes the special relationship every Kölner has with their hometown. I’m Moritz, born and raised in this beautiful and special town along the Rhine River. While I’m a true Cologne enthusiast now, this surprisingly did take some time to grow on me.
Right after finishing school, I felt it was time to see a bit of the world first. In the following couple of years, I traveled around a lot and lived in various cities in Germany, the US, and lastly for an exchange semester in Norway. Interestingly, the further I went away, the closer connected I felt to my hometown. Starting with putting more and more pictures of Cologne up in my flat, I soon saw myself not only following games of my beloved football club (the Effzeh) much more frequently but also promoting the Cologne spirit to every stranger I met.
Well, after having made my travels I now was very confident that I would need to return to my hometown to celebrate and share my love for the city with others. Starting with showing many of my international friends around the city, I am super excited now to share all the historical, funny, heartful, and weird stories this city has to tell (trust me, there are a lot!) with you. I hope, that some of the unique feeling Cologne inhabits will transfer to you to experience some real “La Kölsche Vita” 🙂
