Are the free walking tours actually free?
Yes. Our public tours run on a "name your own price" system — you join for free and decide what to contribute at the end, based on what the experience was worth to you. Nothing is charged upfront.
How much should I pay?
There's no fixed price and nothing is compulsory — you're welcome to give as little or as much as you feel the tour was worth. As a rough guide, most guests contribute around €12–15 per person.
Where do the tours meet?
Our public tours meet at the Eigelstein-Torburg, one of Cologne's medieval city gates — about a 10–15 minute walk from the Cathedral. Private and themed tours may have a different meeting point, noted on your booking.
What languages are the tours offered in?
English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese — availability varies by tour and day. Our Classic Cologne tour runs in all four; check each tour's page for its specific schedule.
Which tour should I take first?
If it's your first time in Cologne, our Classic Cologne tour is the natural starting point — it covers the Altstadt and Cathedral quarter. From there, our themed tours (Kölsch culture, ghost stories, hidden history) let you go deeper into whatever interests you most.
What's the difference between a free tour and a private tour?
Our public tours run on a fixed daily schedule, pay-what-you-want, alongside other travelers. Private tours are booked in advance for your group only, at a set price, with the flexibility to focus on whatever themes you like.
Can I bring my kids?
Children of all ages are welcome, and you know your own kids best — we generally find our tours suit children over about 12 years old well, given the walking distance and storytelling pace.
What if it rains?
Our tours run rain or shine, with small route adjustments as needed for the weather. As we like to say in Germany: there's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothing.
