What to see on our Free Walking Tours
Join us on our Classic Bonn Tour – a must-do while you’ve lived here for decades or are in town for an afternoon! You’ll take a walk through Bonn’s history, from ancient Roman roots to its days as a Federal Capital, and get to know what makes this quiet Rhineland city so special. Get ready to learn about the deep roots, historic culture, and attitude of perservence you never thought you’d find in Bonn!
What you’ll see!
Meet your guide first at the Martinsbrunnen where you’ll connect the history of France’s holiest man with the story of Bonn as it rose from colony to archbishop’s home to capital. In the shadow of Bonner Münster, you’ll stand with two giant sculpted heads of the martyrs whose sacrifice gave rise to Bonn itself and learn the story of the woman who discovered their bones. Soon after, you’ll reach the Beethoven Monument, hear the story of the city’s most famous son and see his incredible legacy in a city he that he didn’t love back. Next, you’ll pass the Sterntor, a relocated medieval gate that shows just how far Bonn will go to keep its history alive, before a stop at Bönnsch to talk beer, biergarten culture, and the pub where a runaway archbishop’s wedding sparked a war.
Afterward, you’ll wander to Beethoven-Haus, the composer’s birthplace and home to the world’s largest Beethoven collection, before arriving at the Marktplatz, home to Bonn’s polar opposite historical periods: book burning Nazis and diverse, welcoming, loving Karneval. After stops through some of Bonn’s incredible green spaces, we’ll finish with sweeping Rhine views from the Alter Zoll, taking in the UN campus, Drachenfels castle, and the Siebengebirge. Here we’ll complete the perfect send-off to a city called the Gateway to the Romantic Rhein for a reason, helping you explore the city further with an exclusive list of local recommendations, visits, and other tours to expand your stay in Bonn. A day in Bonn wouldn’t be complete without a tour with us!
